First Post of the 2014-2015 School Year!
Welcome! Here is this week's newsletter and important information about Beyond Textbooks:
Mrs.
Alday’s 4th Grade News
Week of August 25-29, 2014
This week, we are focusing on:
·
Math – We are focusing on using different strategies
to multiply 4 digits x 1 digit and 2 digits x 2 digits. We are also solving
multi-step word problems that use all four operations. Please consider purchasing
multiplication flash cards to help your child at home. It’s much easier for them to solve these
problems when they know their facts.
·
Reading – We are continuing to read Stuart Little.
We are working on finding the main idea in expository text and summarizing the
text.
·
Social Studies – We are working on describing
pre-historic cultures in Arizona.
·
Science – We are focusing on how to classify vertebrates
as well as naming plant and animal adaptations.
Important Dates:
·
August 25th-29th – Book Fair
·
August 27th – Open House from 6-8 p.m.
·
August 29th – Dollar Dress Down Day!
Bring your dollar and dress down! All money goes back to our class.
Additional Notes:
·
Homework – Please remember to make sure your student
is completing their homework every night.
If it is not turned in, they will complete it in lunch detention as well
as lose points on their grade. Reading logs are due every Friday and are worth
5 points. Students need to be reading for 20 minutes every night.
·
Please have students bring in a sweater to wear
inside the classroom. It gets cold in
here pretty fast. Also, please make sure
to bring in water bottles especially on PE days which are Tuesday and Friday.
·
Please monitor your student’s grades on Family Link.
The website is https://schoolmaster1asp.tylertech.com/LPA/FamilyLink.
·
I’m sorry. I
have been under the weather and did not have time to fill out the Weekly
Behavior Progress Report this past week. Please see me if you have any
questions.
·
If you have a question, contact me at dalday@lpatucson.org.
Thank you!

Beyond Textbooks and Targeted Tutoring:
This
year, our school has decided to partner with Vail School District and therefore
we have acquired Beyond Textbooks.
Beyond Textbooks is an amazing curriculum calendar for teachers to
follow with tons of resources for teachers to use in the classroom with
students.
The way it
works is that teachers get to focus on one to two standards a week in the classroom. At the end of the 1st week
(Friday), the teacher will give a short five question assessment on the
standard. Depending on their score,
students will either go to a reteach class or an enrichment class the following
week every day from 2:30-3:00. Students
who score a 4 or 5 will go to the enrichment class. Students who score a 3 or less will go to the
reteach class.
At the end
of the 2nd week, students in reteach will take a second
assessment. It is very important to
understand that “reteach” is not a punishment for students. It is a way to give students the extra help
that they need and deserve. If at the
end of the second week students still do not pass the second assessment, they
will have to attend Targeted Tutoring after school. This is a mandatory time where your student
will stay from 3:30-4:30 M, T, Th, and F working with one of our 4th
grade teachers in a more one on one setting.
We are extremely
excited to launch this new program and to help our students be the best that
they can be! If you have any questions, please feel free t0 ask your child’s
teacher or our assistant principal, Mr. Emory.
Thank you so much for your support with this program.
